Movement, Camera View, Enviroment, HUD, and Combat
Personally I opt for a standard fixed 3rd person view midway between over-the-shoulder and bird's eye, enclosed environment for simplicity and ease in production, and basic melee/ranged aiming combat. IMO the game is already beyond our current abilities but not impossible as long as we stay reasonable in our suggestions. Feel free to add any opinions or suggestions.

^The 2nd link is a good combat ex.^
Environment examples: Final Fantasy XIII (despite looking nice the environment was too cramped IMO; practically a straight line)
Slender by Parsec Pro or the Sanatorium spinoff (interior rooms and enclosed forest make for scary scenes)
Portal 2 (laboratory overgrown with vegetation is nice)

You know, I was thinking 2D perspective could work, but that second video example you posted is making me feel that a 3D perspective like you're saying may be better. It will take a lot more work, but we could probably pull it off.

Check out this game. The combat sequences are far out of our reach, but the style is similar to what i think you are suggesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVBzU_a-EvU
Re: Movement, Camera View, Enviroment, HUD, and Combat
For the HUD, i think we should go Resident Evil 1, and go with a minimal hud style, and when one takes damage (if we're going non-regenerative health, which I like) the screen will become blurry, throb, and have no color, making the player be like "OSNAP, OSNAP, OSNAP, WHERES A HEALTH PACK??!?!" Personally, though, I think what Omar was planning before (2D, 3D models and background) was more creative than the 3rd-person view, because we already have so many games like that (Metal Gear Rising, God of War, Heavenly Sword, Bayonetta, Lollipop Chainsaw, Vindictus, etc) and that the 2D would be easier for a small starting group like us.

A 2D view would be easier. But what's a hack n slash game in 2D? Mario jumping on Goombas? I understand it'll be tough but we already have a solution. Environments will be limited and the 3rd person view is relatively fixed kinda like Resident Evil 1 but it tracks the back of the player. Ask the Admin for the Unity Player test link for the camera view we're testing out.

heres the link so far. All the mechanics and scenery will be changed and made from scratch, this was just made to test out a full 3D perspective. http://bit.ly/projecterebos

A mixture of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox1mSUTZWPg&feature=g-vrec for over the shoulder and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVhfiKD86RU for first person view which the camera gets locked into in horror scenes.

Re: Movement, Camera View, Enviroment, HUD, and Combat
It's already been decided that we'll use an over the shoulder view for outdoor environments and transition to first person or a closer fixed third person view for indoor environments. I already suggested the MGS3 Dracula Minigame setup and the Admin made a test game. See his above post.

I think this video is a good example of the gameplay and graphic style we should be aiming for, though the scenery and buildings would be much different: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7doZNODM_zs
